Exploring Our Communities
Student photo essay project
We are all from somewhere, east, west, north or south. We have a place where we have grown up and experienced life. A place where we have lived, and that helped make us who we are today. This place has people, places and activities. It is our community.
Tell us about a special person who makes your part of the world different. They may be world famous or just known in your neighborhood. What jobs do people do in your community that are unusual or make a difference? Are those jobs that you would like to do? Does music, art or theatre play a role in what makes your town special? Are their places or buildings that identify your community? Does your community care about your health? What initiatives can you find in your community that promote good health?
Look around and see what your special place has to offer. Give us 5-7 photos with captions plus 80-120 words describing some aspect that makes your community special. Submit it to Dataseam by December 9th. Your entries will be judged and prizes awarded by December 16th.
We encourage teachers to put the power of words, images and the internet to work by incorporating student created publications in positive, powerful presentations.
